You Must Change Yourself Before You Can Change The World

“Be the change that you wish to see in the world” Mahatma Gandhi This first sentence tells you pretty much what the topic is. The topic is that if you can change three things about the world what would it be? The first thing that I would change is to stop littering. Littering is a very popular thing that people do today. When you walk down very common streets that many people walk on a day with clubs and bars nearby, you would realise that the street is filled with garbage and other wastes.

How can we stop this? We can simply stop this by making an example to show the right thing to do. If we catch someone littering we can tell them it is wrong to do so. When you go to popular beaches and other places like that you can see that there is a lot of litter. Problem = solution. We can get people from you church or school and make a little group, and every other week we can go to the beach and pick up garbage and also have fun while doing it.

Remember, I did say three things. For the second thing I would like to change about the world is bullying. In every place that you go to, there will be someone that will pick on you and treat unfairly. Bullies mainly do this because they are usually having family problems, or if not they would be using their size for their ability. It is not an easy thing to go through when being bullied.

How can we fix this? We can fix this by simply telling thing the grownups near you. They would only have the power to correct the person and correct the situation. Although, sometimes this method doesn’t work. Sometimes some people would even make it worse. This had happened to my sister in my old school. Every time she would tell on the other girl it would be just like adding fuel to a fire. To then stop this you must try to keep your distance away from the person you are being bullied. Then if that doesn’t work you just have to communicate with the people around you. Also you can put up signs and posters to help to stop bullying.

The gospel of Jesus Christ is very important to me. It has brought so much joy and happiness to me and my family. My life is so much better with the gospel in my life it has brought only good things. Living the gospel teaches us to love one another to serve others and be our brother’s keeper. Sharing the gospel with others through missionary work can change the world, because we can flood the earth with love and hope. My dad has been an excellent example to me. About twenty four years ago, my dad served as a missionary here in Trinidad and Tobago.

Through his example I have seen how the gospel can change people’s lives, which has inspired me when I turn eight teen to serve a full time mission myself. I can’t think of a better way that I myself could change the world than to be a missionary for my heavenly father. The more missionaries we have on the earth today, the more people will know and understand about the gospel and the word of God. Feeling the presence of God is like walking into a candy store filled with things you love, you just want everything. The presence of God is one of the most amazing things ever and I want everyone to feeling this magical sensation.

My Trials

One day my mom picked me up early from school and she was crying. So I asked "mom what happened?" She simply said that my grandpa had a stroke. At first I was confused because this was a very sudden shock. She then bursted out crying. That was when I truly believed the devastation. I knew
that my grandpa was dying. He was hospitalized many many times and had slightly recovered. He was on the verge of death. The frustrating thing about this situation is that his new wife would not give us access to him and my family had to take action. My mom and uncle were taking turns watching him and making sure he was safe.

You are probably wondering how can this affect me? This afected me because my grandpa was dying and we could do little at the time to help him. When my mom looked after him she took the day shift in the hospital to look after him. Where the hospital he was in, it was in port of Spain and I live in San Fernando. It is a long drive to and from my house to the hospital. I didn't get to see my mom for long periods of time. She would be there from eight o'clock in the morning to ten at night. The only time I would see her was in the morning before I went to school and maybe late at night when I was in bed. She would at times reach home at about one o'clock in the morning and have very little rest. On weekends I would visit him for the day. That is really the most I've ever seen him in my life. It was an extremely hard time in the family. Everyone was stressed about everything that was happening to my grandpa.

It also caused great sadness to me because he was not well at all. It also effected me because it would devastate my mom to the point that it's not even imaginable. Recently a couple days ago my mom got a call that he was sick again. In between the time when he was sent back home when he was ok. He was rushed to the hospital and found all kinds of stuff wrong with him. A couple days after the call she visited him and got to speak with him and he was doing better.

One thing I have learnt from this experience is to take the time that you have with your relatives to love and appreciate them and what they do for you.
Thank you.

Why Gossip?

Why do we gossip? People gossip mostly because they have nothing better to do. So, they gossip to waste or kill time. Also, people thrive on gossiping for power because they want others to feel that they are more intelligent than them.

A famous quote by Sean Covey that can be found in the book, "The Seven Habits Of Highly Effective Teens", says: "Isn't it kind of silly to think that tearing someone else down builds you up?". In the tabloid magazines, they gossip about famous people, like movie stars, performers and other popular public figures, just to make money! This type of money making gossip can destroy their careers and lives as a whole.

The main point is that any kind of gossip can be much more harmful and destructive in a person's life, than gossip ever being helpful and positive. So, before you are ever tempted to gossip about someone, you should think twice and speak once.

God Bless America

America, “The land of the free” line from the American National anthem. America has a lot to offer to someone travelling there because the influence of so many cultures makes it a very interesting place. Immigrants from all over the world have settled in the United States of America. A main part of any culture is food. Some of the most popular types of food that we enjoy originated in America. These include Fried chicken, BBQ, Macaroni and cheese, Apple pie, Sweet Potatoes, Turkey even the Fortune cookie.

Since America has 50 states there are many things to do that makes each state unique. I am from Idaho in the Pacific North West region. Idaho is an outdoor enthusiast’s wonderland. Summers are great because the days are long so it gives you much more time to have fun and enjoy yourself. Activities include water sports in the many lakes and reservoirs, rock climbing, motorcycle riding in the mountain trails, horse-back riding and camping. Idaho also offers extremely fun winter activities including skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, snowmobiling and sledding.

Although many things are now outsourced to other countries to be manufactured, there are some iconic brands that are proudly made in America. Examples include Harley-Davidson motorcycles, Wilson sports brand American footballs, Ford automobiles, Whirlpool appliances and Gibson guitars.

There were also many inventions that originated in the U.S.A. Benjamin franklin discovered electricity and also Bifocal eyeglasses. Thomas Edison invented the phonograph and the light bulb. Alexander Bell was the inventor of the telephone.

Many of the technologies and comforts of life that we enjoy today are a result of American influence. “God Bless America” is not just a slogan, but actual principles upon which the country was founded.

Fix Yourself

Have you ever tried to fix yourself or to make yourself better? I have. It is a quite complicated process. You need to first locate what you may need to change. It can be a personal weak point or it can be a straight up problem. A popular way that people go through is if they make a scene. You don’t have to make a scene to get attention.

Another major thing is to try to be your best at anything. Many people don’t make an effort to do what they need to do. Also be yourself because there is none better than you. Being someone else is a trap because they are different from you and some people don’t understand that.

One of my most hated things I the world is judging. You do not have the right to make fun of or say you can or cannot do. It is not fair and it is not right. Judging is really popular now a days because people think that they can say what they want when they want, it’s not fair. Find a weak point and make a solution and not problems. Remember what I said it will help you

Drugs are the pathway do a broken life

Drugs, the greatest enemy of our time. Once you enter there is no coming back. People know that drugs are bad for them and that they can do harm to your body, but why? Why do they make the evil choice that directs them to the devil? Drugs are so prevalent these days that people are even experimenting these violent life destroyers at younger ages. But people don't realise the consequences of that one test to either impress or to be cool to their friends.

I have a family friend who is a living example of how drugs can devastate your life. He was having a bad day and a friend at a party offered him to have a smoke. Little did he know that it was marijuana mixed with cocaine. He instantly got high and continued to use drugs to get that same feeling that he had the first time. It has never been achieved. I have seen the effects of drugs literally breaking all aspects of his life.

Because of these harmful substances he now has a broken marriage with four confused and sad children because of his broken promises to them. He is mentally, physically and financially broken because of these habits. His friendships and family are all gone. No one can trust or rely on him. I do believe that there is always hope for a better life. He is now in rehab and will be there for a long time. Its better to learn from others' mistakes rather than having to learn the hard way.
